USSSA Super NIT youth baseball tournament at Historic Dodgertown this weekend

VERO BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 27, 2017) — USSSA Baseball and Florida Premier Sports will host its Super NIT youth baseball tournament at Historic Dodgertown this weekend, with teams traveling from throughout the state of Florida to compete. The weekend tournament is co-hosted by Historic Dodgertown, the Treasure Coast Sports Commission and Indian River County Parks and Recreation.

The players, ages 10 to 14, will play their games at the Quad youth baseball complex added to Historic Dodgertown’s selection of fields in 2012, as well as at Fields 5 and 6, the same fields used by the Los Angeles Dodgers when they held Spring Training here in Vero Beach. Additional games will be held at North and South County Parks.

Historic Dodgertown welcomes the teams and families to stay in the hotel villas and to enjoy the recreational amenities such as the competition-size swimming pool, lighted tennis and basketball courts and more. Families also book hotel room nights in area hotels and visit local dining and shopping, all serving as an economic generator to the city and county.

USSSA (United State Specialty Sports Association) was founded in 1968 and in 1997 became the first multi-sports governing body in the country. The organization offers programs and tournaments in baseball, basketball, golf, flag football, martial arts, lacrosse, soccer, softball and volleyball.

As the USSSA NIT youth baseball tournament is taking place this weekend, concurrently the Chinese Women’s National Softball Team continues their training at Historic Dodgertown through Nov. 22, and the Chinese Men’s National Baseball Team will open their three week training camp here next week.

Historic Dodgertown, opened in 1948, sits on the site of an original Naval Air Station and for 60 years was the Spring Training home of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. More than 140 Hall of Famers have played and visited this internationally recognized facility. Next year – 2018 – marks its 70th anniversary.
