    Historic Dodgertown Website Features The Dodgers-Cuba Connection

    VERO BEACH, Fla. –The Dodgers’ longstanding connection with Cuba is the topic of a new feature on the Historic Dodgertown – Vero Beach, Florida website, historicdodgertown.com, with rare photographs from the O’Malley Family collection, including one with famed novelist Ernest Hemingway with Dodger players, it was announced today by Historic Dodgertown Vice President Craig Callan.

    ON THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS FIRST DAY AT DODGERTOWN, NOMO HAS MANY FOND MEMORIES

    VERO BEACH, Fla. –Hideo Nomo, pioneer pitcher of the Los Angeles Dodgers, recalls his first Spring Training as a Dodger on the 20th Anniversary of his first day in uniform – March 3, 1995 – at Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Florida.

    Nomo remembers his Dodgertown arrival, which included significant fanfare from the awaiting media, both domestic and from Japan, after signing as a free agent with the Dodgers on February 13, 1995.

    Record Number of Treasure Coast Presidents’ Day Challenge Teams Set To Take The Field at Historic Dodgertown

    VERO BEACH, FL – Historic Dodgertown, along with the Treasure Coast Sports Commission, are gearing up to welcome a record number of youth baseball teams to the area for Presidents’ Day Weekend February 14th – 16th.  Participating in age divisions 10 & under through 18 & under, 82 teams from nine states and Canada will be taking part in this early season tournament.  An event that has hosted 60 and 59 teams in each of the least two years, respectively, has grown by 25% in 2015 as Historic Dodgertown continues to receive more national acclaim as a destination for youth sports.

    Excerpted Letters from Emeritus Selig

    On January 17, 2015, former Los Angeles Dodger All-Star pitchers Chan Ho Park and Hideo Nomo were honored by the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation with the first “Pioneer Award” at a major baseball dinner in Los Angeles. Baseball Commissioner Allan H. “Bud” Selig was in attendance to make the Pioneer Award presentations at the dinner.

    The award was in recognition of the challenges that Park and Nomo faced coming to America, including learning a new language, and the doors they opened when they signed Major League Baseball contracts.

    Local Youth Cal Ripken Players and Korean Professional SK Wyverns Holding Events At Historic Dodgertown

    VERO BEACH, Fla. –Area Cal Ripken League players have been breaking in their gloves under the lights at Historic Dodgertown’s quad complex this week and next, as they prepare for their upcoming season. A division of Babe Ruth, the Indian River Cal Ripken League serves youth ages 12 and under from Vero Beach, Sebastian, Ft. Pierce and Palm Bay.     Historic Dodgertown Founding Partners Park and Nomo Honored by Major League Baseball

    LOS ANGELES, CA – Former Major League Baseball pitchers Chan Ho Park and Hideo Nomo were honored by Major League Baseball Commissioner Allan H. “Bud” Selig at the “In the Spirit of the Game” Sports and Entertainment Spectacular as the first-ever recipients of the “Baseball Pioneer” Award.     The SK Wyverns Return to Historic Dodgertown for the Fourth Consecutive Season

    VERO BEACH, Fla. –The SK Wyverns, of the Korean Baseball Organization, have returned to Historic Dodgertown to train in preparation for their 2015 season. The Korean Baseball Organization is the highest level of professional baseball in South Korea.  The team arrived Thursday, January 15, following their long journey and will depart February 9.

    Back for their fourth consecutive season, the Wyverns will undergo intense pre-season training, as well as hold intersquad games some evenings in Holman Stadium. Practices and games are open to public spectators.

    Year End Events at Historic Dodgertown Bring Ballplayers and Families From 36 States to Indian River County for the Holidays

    Warm weather and elite training programs have brought an infiltration of young male and female athletes to Indian River County for the holidays. Since schools went on break, Historic Dodgertown has hosted Bill Pilat’s The Goalie School for lacrosse goalies, two Baseball Factory events, Softball Factory and is set to welcome over 400 ballplayers ages 13 and under for Baseball Youth All American Games beginning New Year’s Day.

    Benefit Concerts and Adult Baseball Camp at Historic Dodgertown Lead to Dollars Raised for Local Organizations

    The late-October Jake Owen Benefit Concert and December’s Step Up America Heroes Festival starring The Band Perry brought two of the biggest names in country music to Historic Dodgertown. The Los Angeles Dodgers Adult Baseball Camp Game that featured campers versus their instructors saw Dodgers greats take the field once again at Holman Stadium. With these events along with the annual St. Helen’s Harvest Festival, the County-owned facility has truly been utilized for community endeavors in recent weeks.
