    Chinese National Fastpitch Softball Team Returns to Historic Dodgertown

    Historic Dodgertown is pleased to welcome the Chinese National Women’s Fastpitch Softball Team, the Beijing Eagles, as they train for their 2019 season. This is the third extended-stay training season at Historic Dodgertown since the team was established in May 2017.

    The Eagles trained at Historic Dodgertown this past spring and last fall in preparation for their regular season in the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF) and for international competition. The team’s long-term goal is to compete in the 2020 Olympic Games.

    Celebrating the birthdate of Walter O'Malley

    Today, we remember Walter O’Malley, who was owner of the Dodgers from 1944-1979, on the 115th Anniversary of his October 9 birth in the Bronx, New York. O’Malley was named President of the Dodgers on October 26, 1950 and proceeded to oversee a first-class organization that won World Championships in 1955, 1959, 1963 and 1965, along with National League Pennants in 1952, 1953, 1955, 1956, 1959, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1974, 1977 and 1978.

    He set the gold standard for baseball franchises of the 20th Century and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in ceremonies held in Cooperstown, New York on Sunday, July 27, 2008.

    Happy 91st birthday, Tommy Lasorda!

    Historic Dodgertown celebrates today, September 22nd, as the birthday of Tommy Lasorda, the Hall of Fame Dodger manager who managed the team from 1977 to 1996 with two World Championships. 

    It has been 30 years ago since he did his finest managing job leading the Dodgers to the World Series and then defeating the Oakland A’s in five games.  For his efforts, he was named Major League Manager of the Year by The Sporting News.  The tagline on the Dodgers’ 1988 highlight film was “A Season of Thrills, A Lifetime of Memories,...     Remembering Ted Williams on the anniversary of his birthdate

    Today, we remember Baseball Hall of Famer Ted Williams, considered one of the greatest players in baseball history, on this the 100th Anniversary of his birth. Known as “The Splendid Splinter,” the 19-time American League All-Star played 19 seasons with the Boston Red Sox.

    Williams visited Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Florida as Manager of the Washington Senators each spring from 1969-1971 and as a guest. His last appearance was on March 3, 2000.

    Historic Dodgertown looks forward to annual Labor Day Beach Bash youth tournament

    Historic Dodgertown’s Labor Day Beach Bash youth tournament to welcome more than 55 teams with their families, from across the state and Georgia

    Vero Beach and the surrounding region can look forward to welcoming a large number of enthusiastic visitors this weekend. Historic Dodgertown, Indian River County and the Treasure Coast Sports Commission are hosting the annual Labor Day Beach Bash youth baseball tournament, and with more than 55 teams registered from across the state and Georgia, Vero Beach will see more than 1,800 visitors just for the holiday weekend, including the players, coaches and families....     Today marks 10th anniversary of Walter O'Malley's entrance into the National Baseball Hall of Fame

    Historic Dodgertown celebrates today, July 27th, as the 10th anniversary of the induction of visionary Walter O’Malley to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

    As part of the Dodgers’ co-ownership in 1948, it was O’Malley along with Branch Rickey and John Smith, who made the decision to establish a Spring Training base in Vero Beach, Florida.  Through his ownership of the Dodgers, O’Malley’s innovations made Dodgertown the highly regarded pre-season training site that is used regularly by Major League Baseball and many college, high school, and youth teams....     Baseball's Longest Running Infield

    On this date, June 23, 1973, the infields at Historic Dodgertown, Holman Stadium, Fields No.1, Field No.2, and the half-field at Field No. 3, were 3,000 miles away from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. But, it was on those fields that would eventually lead to the longest running infield in baseball history.
